I don’t know about you but I love Love LOVE the Hey Girl Ryan Gosling Memes (if you haven’t seen them check the memes out HERE or you can watch Ryan cracking himself up reading them HERE). News has broken out that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have recently welcomed their own beautiful bouncing baby girl. I just read this cute article that had a bunch of Hey DAUGHTER Memes (see them all HERE).
We’re hoping to give X a little sister some day, and having a daddy with feminist views will be especially important then. Forget the “cute” shirts and posters that have daddies treating their daughters like property: “Rules for dating my daughter” etc. I prefer the idea of raising my daughter with my husband so that she knows we are their to support and protect her when needed, but that she is strong and smart enough to make her own rules for dating. Hopefully she’ll have enough respect for herself, and a healthy level of self esteem that we won’t need to create the illusion that we set the boundaries between her and men, but that she can set them for herself.
And for my wonderful little man, he’ll know that it is never ok to treat women as lesser, or as property in any way. He’ll see his mom and his sister as strong and capable of taking care of themselves. He’ll have respect for women because he’ll see how his father treats the women in his life as equals and with the upmost respect.
What do you think? What expectations do you have on your partner for setting an example for your children? What role do you want to spend in their lives as they become young adults?
